Read our review of the popular Dawn Jeans by Megan Nielsen!
Denim jeans are an essential part of any #memade wardrobe and after seeing tons of amazing versions of the Dawn Jeans from Megan Nielsen over on instagram, we knew we had to try them out! The timing couldn’t be better as an exciting drop of denim has landed in stores and online recently. From raw indigo to fresh white and soft chambray plus an eye-catching silver foil style and a handful of basic drills, these are perfect for year-round projects and wardrobe classics like jeans! Read on for our review of the Dawn Jean, featuring our timeless 12oz Denim – Indigo and kindly worn by Lisa from our HQ team.
The Dawn Jeans are a classic high waisted rigid jean pattern set and one of the best things about them (besides the fit!) are the options! The set of patterns offers a tapered leg jean, a straight leg jean, a wide leg jean and a pair of jean shorts – we picked version A – the tapered leg. If you’re struggling to choose between the styles, check out these ideas and inspo from Megan here.
The tapered leg pattern features a high rise to sit on the natural waist, a button or zip fly option and classic jeans detailing. Lisa’s measurements fell between the size 8 and 10 so we chose to merge the size 8 waist with the size 10 at the hip. This was simple to do and Megan has made some handy notes on blending two sizes which you can read here.
We used the recommended 1.6m of our 12oz Indigo Denim (162cm wide) plus a little contrast Liberty print for the pocket bags! The instructions included with this pattern were very clear and we’d recommend reading them through thoroughly before starting to sew, so you know when topstitching is required. Megan Nielsen recommend this pattern would suit an intermediate sewist, which we would agree with as it features pockets, lots of topstitching, a zipper or button fly front and waistband as well as buttonholes and a handful of hardware!
The Dawn Jeans pattern is available to purchase as a print-at-home PDF download or printed pattern from the Megan Nielsen website.
Megan Nielsen recommend using a bottom-weight fabric with such as denim, corduroy, linen or a rigid twill. We love how our Dawn Jeans turned out in this super classic and versatile 12 oz rigid denim! If you’re after something a little different, such as a foil coated denim, street-style worthy white denim, corduroy or linen, all of our stores have a range of colours and weights available, including this classic bunch below.
From left to right – 10oz Stretch Denim – Cream, 10oz Coated Denim – Nickle, 7oz Denim – Yale Blue, 11oz Denim – Indigo and 8oz Cotton / Linen Denim – Midnight
If you’re on the hunt for a super well-fitting pair of jeans, look no further! So many options makes the Dawn a very handy wardrobe staple and we’d definitely recommend giving it a go! Don’t forget we always love to see your makes, share with us @wearethefabricstore using #thefabricstore
