When the sewing community rallied to make a handful of Nashville-based slow fashion brand Elizabeth Suzann's garment patterns available for home sewists in 2020, a tide of beautiful makes began popping up on Instagram.

If you aren't familiar with the ES story, have a read here over on the new Elizabeth Suzann Studio website. We're hoping to see more of these well-crafted patterns come available!

The Clyde Work Pant and Georgia Tee are two well-tested styles that we knew would be ideal for our Exclusive Linen ranges.

We love the pairing of these two effortless shapes, both such versatile and classic pieces that we can see living in our wardrobes for years to come! Read on further for the full review of the Clyde Work Pant and Georgia Series Tee patterns, kindly modeled for us by Nicky.

Pattern — Clyde Work Pant

The Clyde Pants are commonly referred to as 'forever pants' and they're a lovely example of a seasonless staple! The pattern features an elasticated waistband, tapered leg, paneled side seams with deep curved side pockets, and top-stitching detail on the panels and waistband.

The size range for this pattern is US sizes 000-28 and has three length options, making it useful to adapt for different heights. We made up a size 18 in 'Tall Length' for Nicky, who is 5'10 in height, and the fit was pretty good! We noted that the rise was quite high for an elasticated pant, which we'd probably try to adjust a little for the future for Nicky.

The Clyde Work Pant is labeled as intermediate difficulty or for a 'patient beginner' and we would agree with this as the pants are overall pretty simple to sew, however the pocket detail and topstitching require attention to detail and a steady hand.

We used 2.5 m of our textured Heavyweight Linen in Army, which matches the yield that Elizabeth Suzann Studio recommends for the size 18. The instruction booklet was a dream to follow, with hand-drawn sketches for each step and an additional 'Quick Start Guide' with the instructions broken down into eight basic steps for more advanced sewists, or those ready to jump right in! Such a great idea!

Pattern — Georgia Tee

Elizabeth Suzann Studio Georgia Tee

This lovely boxy oversized top was 'designed with a universal fit in mind' and has three length options in the series; Georgia Tee, Georgia Dress, and Georgia Midi - making it a super versatile pattern to add to your collection!

The Georgia Tee is a relaxed-fitting top with a crew-shaped neck, internal binding finish on the neckline, a drop shoulder, and a 5cm wide sleeve cuff. This pattern comes in a size range from OS Minus - OS Plus 3 and we chose size OS Plus 2 for Nicky. We felt that the length of the top was a bit short for Nicky, so we added a 5cm band to the hem to add extra length. It also matches the sleeve cuff detail, which looks fab!
We used 1.8 m of our Vintage Finish Linen in Acorn for our Georgia Tee and this was slightly over the recommended yield for this size, as we added extra length to the hem.

Elizabeth Suzann Studio suggests that this pattern is suitable for a beginner or "for sewers of all levels". The top came together easily and was super quick to construct in our midweight linen. One point to note would be the neck binding, which does take a little more skill and patience to attach!

The Georgia Tee is available to purchase as a digital sewing pattern here from the Elizabeth Suzann Studio website!

Vintage Finish Linen in Acorn and Heavyweight Linen - Army

Our Vintage Finish Linen complemented the Georgia Tee pattern beautifully, with just the right amount of movement, texture and subtle drape for this boxy silhouette. Elizabeth Suzann Studio suggests using light-to medium-weight woven fabrics with some drape for this tee pattern. We think lightweight cottons and linens for a casual everyday throw-on feel would suit this style, or you could choose a luxe silk crepe de chine or silk satin for dressier occasions.

The Clyde Work Pant suited our heavyweight linen perfectly and the Army colour lends it a classic utilitarian vibe! This pattern is suitable for a wide range of woven fabrics, from mid-weight cottons such as cotton twills and corduroys along with heavier fabrics like heavyweight linens and cotton canvas and denim would look pretty fab too!

We recommend washing linen garments after sewing as we have here, it relaxes the linen fibres and also gives it that yummy lived-in feel. We also used 5cm woven elastic for the waistband, and you can purchase this trim from our Online Store!
