Read our review of the recently released Remi Shirt by Papercut Patterns!
The new Remy Shirt from our friends at Papercut Patterns is a must-have staple in any handmade wardrobe, with its classic button up design and versatile features. This week we tested the pattern using a heavy melton wool, ending up with an ultra-cute shirt jacket, aka 'shacket', perfect for our winter cold snap! Read on for details and photos of the project, kindly modelled by Bianca from our Online Store team.
Pattern — Remy Shirt by Papercut Patterns
It boasts drop shoulders with the option of a full sleeve or sleeveless cuff, as well as patch pockets, a curved hem, and a back yoke with pleat detailing. Remy can also be transformed into a cozy shacket, which is how we decided to test it out! We made up a size 2 for Bianca using 1.75m of Wool/Cashmere Blend Melton in the colour Sea Holly. This is a coating-weight woven fabric, and ended up being perfect for this cosy make. We decided to line the pocket flaps, back yoke, collar stand and the under collar, using 0.5m of Liberty Piccadilly Poplin - Elegance / B. Due to the weight of the wool, we opted to bind the interior seams, using 3m of matching Liberty Bias Binding! The addition of a bunch of recycled paper buttons were a cute pairing with the blue wool. The entire jacket was also shorted by 4cm for Bianca. Remy is another great pattern from Papercut Patterns and we'd definitely recommend it for intermediate sewists wanting to make a new shirt. The instructions were easy to follow and well detailed, and we love that this pattern has the flexibility to be made in thicker fabrics like the wool we used.
If you'd like to try the Remy Shirt out, you can purchase the pattern from our Online Store here in NZ sizes 6-20 and here in NZ sizes 16 - 34. Also available is the pattern in kids sizes, if you want to make a matching mini version!
Fabric Used — Wool/Cashmere Blend Melton in Sea Holly and Liberty Piccadilly Poplin - Elegance / B
Papercut recommend using light-midweight woven fabrics for the Remy Shirt pattern, such as silk, cotton, wool or rayon. We love how our Remy turned out in the heavy wool melton too, it definitely lends more of a jacket feel and has quite a different silhouette from a typical shirting fabric. Check out a few shacket-friendly fabric suggestions from our Online Store below, from top to bottom is our Heavyweight Linen – Army, 10oz Upcycled Denim – Wave, Linen / Cotton Canvas – Chestnut and Bold Houndstooth Cotton / Wool Blend Tweed - Grouse
