Anna Allen Pomona Pants
17—September 2024
This week we refreshed our pattern review of the popular Pomona Pants from Anna Allen, a tried and true favourite for many sewists!
A quick check of Anna Allen's beginner-friendly Pomona Pants pattern hashtag will show you hundreds of beautiful iterations from the sewing community! A uniquely simple and easy-wear pattern, the Pomona has impeccable instructions and several views. Patterns like Pomona are not only a quick sew, but a fantastic addition to the staples in any handmade wardrobe. This week we refresh our pattern review with a Heavyweight Linen pair, in our natural colourway. The perfect pant for gardening in! Read on for details and photos, kindly modelled by Steph from our HQ team amongst the bees in Gribblehirst Gardens.
The Pomona Pants are a super simple elastic waist, high rise and loose fitting pant pattern, with optional patch pockets. The simplicity of this pattern lies in its fold-over waistband and lack of side seams. We chose to make up a size 10 for Steph using View A , the wide leg, ankle length sailor-style pant with patch pockets on the back. The entire project took under a day to make and used 2.75m of our Heavyweight Linen - Natural, plus 1m of 50mm white elastic. Steph describes the fit as super comfortable, definitely a pattern she'll make for herself! These pants look cute as a button in natural linen paired with a classic shirt like our Make by TFS Bloom.

We Used — Heavyweight Linen - Natural
Anna Allen recommend midweight woven fabrics for this pattern, which covers many different options. We love the soft feel of the Heavyweight Linen used here, and if you're after a crisper finish, you could try a firmer fabric. Pictured below are a few options from our Online Store. From top to bottom is Upcycled Midweight Cotton Twill - Natural Fleck, Stretch Linen Blend Twill Stripe – Blueberry, Pebble Print Chambray - Dusty Navy and Cotton Canvas – Black
