This week HQ team member Steph shares with us her incredible new Clara Dress! Clara is a beginner-friendly pattern from Swedish brand Silversaga, and the perfect silhouette for a crisp cotton poplin. We love the romantic historical references in this pattern, and Steph has done a wonderful job of adding her own modern touches. Read on for details and photos!
Pattern — Clara Dress by Silversaga Patterns
The Clara dress takes inspiration from the Victorian chemise, featuring and A line skirt and 3/4 length dramatic puff sleeves with elastic cuffs. Steph sewed a size 40 dress, using 3.5m of our beautiful new Dark Fern Organic Cotton Poplin, with a matching thread and about 4m of 7mm elastic. She choose to modify the sleeve by shortening them 2.5cm below the lengthen/shorten line, as well as gathering and binding the cuffs for comfort. Steph says the pattern and instructions were professional and well-drafted, with clear illustrations throughout. She's super happy with the final dress, loves the colour and can see herself wearing it lots this summer.

Dark Fern Organic Cotton Poplin
Silversaga designer Jessica suggests choosing a midweight fabric with a little structure for the Clara Dress. Think cotton, linen, cotton, linen/viscose blends, linen/cotton blends, cotton/viscose blends etc. A softer and drapery fabric will give you less volume, and a crisp airy fabric like our poplin will lend more structure.

and Liberty Piccadilly Poplin - Dancing Butterfly / B
