Peppermint Magazine x Paper Theory Pocket Skirt

You know you're in for a treat when Tara Viggo of Paper Theory teams up with Peppermint Magazine Sewing School to bring us another fantastic FREE pattern available to download! The Pocket Skirt features a slight A-line midi silhouette that finishes just below your calf, an easy pull-on elasticated waistband that sits on the natural waist with oversized pockets cleverly integrated into the side panels. Pair this wardrobe staple with a crop, tuck in your favourite tee or layer with tights and trainers!

We made up the size 8 for Annelise in our new Green Smoke Crinkle Linen, taking 1.7 metres of the 140cm wide fabric. Our Crinkle Linen is semi-opaque and this skirt is an unlined style, so we used our Soft Cotton Voile - Ecru 139cm wide, to make a lining for our skirt. There are a few ways you could create a pattern for your lining pieces. We decided to make a simple A-line pattern by using the stretched waistband and hem circumference measurements for the size 8. We then used the shaping of the side panel pattern pieces to replicate the curve of the hip line, simply stitched to the inside of the main fabric so it could be sandwiched into the waistband, and then shortened the lining length by taking 1 inch off the bottom.

We agree that this pattern is suitable for a beginner sewist, with only straight stitch plain sewing machine needed and no sewing of zips, buttons or tricky openings! The sewing instructions were straightforward with helpful, clear diagrams to follow.

Crinkle Linen - Green Smoke

Paper Theory recommend woven, medium to heavyweight fabrics like linen, double gauze, cotton, viscose twill, crepe de chine or luxe silk satin!

The only other notions required for this make is elastic for the waistband and we used our 25mm Elastic (available in New Zealand, Australian and Online Stores) which worked great!
