Olivia's Billie Overalls
04—September 2024
HQ team member Olivia has made an adorable pair of Billie Overalls for her son Paco!
If you're looking to make a practical and fun addition to your toddler or pre-schooler's wardrobe, this pattern from Australian brand The Ordinary Folk might be just the ticket! Olivia from our HQ team has been searching for a pattern like the Billie Overalls and hope's that her son Paco will wear this cotton version through spring summer and into autumn next year with layers underneath on cooler days. She spotted The Ordinary Folks posts on Instagram before they launched and really liked their fresh take on kids wear. We love supporting a new independent business - read on for project details and photos!
Pattern Used — Billie Overalls from The Ordinary Folk
Olivia is a beginner level sewist and has been planning a pair of practical overalls for almost five-year-old Paco for a while now! She snapped up some of our Upcycled Cotton Shirtings recently, and decided to make a size 6 in this pattern, to give him room for growth. The sewing level for this make is marked as beginner, which Olivia would agree with. She said she enjoyed the encouraging and thoughtful language on the pattern pieces and in the instructions. There are illustrations for every step so she never felt lost! The style is a simple oversized overall with buttons at the shoulders and comes in sizes newborn to 7 years. Olivia chose to make Paco's pair reversible using 3m of celery linen bias binding and 1.4m of both Upcycled Wide Striped Chambray – Blue/Ecru and Upcycled Fine Striped Chambray – Ecru/Blue. Paco loved the addition of the floral Blooms & Berries Stretch Cotton Sateen - Green Mix for the overalls inside pocketing.
Olivia says "I sewed these overalls over a few evenings and learned lots of new things while making them! I’ve never sewn a patch pocket and I also (not part of the pattern) learned how to do mitred corners with bias binding!
These turned out so cute! With our Spring Clean sale on in stores and online at the moment, it's a perfect time to pick up some fabric for kids wear. We'd love to see what you're working on, share your makes with us over on Instagram and TikTok!
