Peppermint Jersey Dress
28—September 2020
We whip up the free Peppermint Jersey Dress pattern using our new Japanese Knitted Corduroy!
We've had the Peppermint Jersey Dress pattern tucked away for a little while and jumped at the chance to sew it up this week, using our new Japanese Knitted Corduroy in beautiful Pine green! The pattern was created back in 2016 for Peppermint Magazine by Emily of In The Folds, and best of all, it's free! Read on for our review below featuring this unique fabric, graciously modelled by Ella from our HQ team!

This pattern couldn't be simpler! It's an easy-wear raglan sleeve jersey dress, with in-seam pockets and is a super quick sew! It can be sewn with an overlocker or standard sewing machine (and the instructions include both methods) and could definitely be tackled by a confident beginner.
We made up the size 10 for Ella with a few adjustments to accommodate the unique handle of our Japanese Knitted Corduroy. This midweight fabric has been cleverly knitted with floats across the back to give stability and to prevent the fabric from stretching. To allow for the fabric's lack of stretch, we omitted the cuffs and hem band and chose to finish our edges with a cover seam. You could also achieve a similar look with this fabric using an overlocker and a straight stitch, or a twin needle stitch if your machine has one.
Ella is 5'9, so we added an inch to the sleeve hem and 2 inches to the body hem. We also adjusted the neck opening to be about 2.5cm wider as it was a little snug! If you are making alterations to this pattern as we did, we'd recommend sewing a toile to make sure you have everything just right before using your final fabric! Our version took 2.1m of Japanese Knitted Corduroy in Pine.

All of our stores, including our Online Store, received a handful of beautiful colours in this fabric recently! It's an acrylic, wool and nylon blend and it's special structure gives it a ribbed / corduroy look but with a super soft feel and heritage look. The fabric is warm and has no stretch making it perfect for oversize sweaters and dresses like this one, as well as cardigans, coats and loungewear.
Check out a few of the other colours available below, from top to bottom - Ivory, Camel, Khaki, Pine and Navy
If you haven't tried this pattern already, we'd definitely recommend giving it a go! It's a simple sew, makes a cute layering piece for transitioning seasons, and can be customised easily.
