We love the versatile, vacation-ready vibes of a #MeMade matching set, and the recently release Saguaro Set from Friday Pattern Company is an ideal pattern to tap into this growing trend. Saguaro is a two piece set made up of simple elastic waistband pants and a v neck top (which can be worn back to front), and is ideal for woven fabrics like linen, cotton and silk. Friday Pattern Company aptly describe the pattern as the perfect outfit for road trips through the desert, sunset walks on the beach, or dancing the night away. Ooo la la! As we head into winter here in the Southern Hemisphere, we're loving light floaty pieces like these for layering up over merino undergarments too. Friday Pattern Company — Saguaro Set
The Saguaro Set by Friday Pattern Company is a two piece pattern set featuring roomy elasticated waist pants with pockets and a drawsting, as well as a pullover top with a v neckline and tie optional tie closure. We made the pant up in a size M and the top in a size S for Annelise, according to her measurements. Our bright Organic Linen in Cornflower was a dream match for this set, and we think lends the pattern a bright, playful feel! We cut both patterns together to maximise the yield, and our full set took 3m of this 139cm wide linen. We added a small piece of Stretch Weft White Fusing behind the buttonholes, and used 124cm of Woven Elastic 50mm - White for the pant and top hems.
Our only alteration for Annelise was to shorten trouser length by 2cm. We also omitted the optional tie on the front of the top.
Overall we thought this was a very quick and easy set to sew and would be suitable for a confident beginner. The binding and the elastic topstitching steps were the only area where a little practice would be handy! The instructions were super straight forward to follow, with great step by step illustrations. We always enjoy the cute little illustrated pins and sewing machine characters in Friday Pattern Company instruction manuals too, offering encouragement and fun tips along the way!
