Beth's Swim Set
30—November 2024
Woohoo! Online team member Beth is ready to take a dip in her new Grasser swimwear set!
Nothing beats playful sun-smart swimwear for the summertime months ahead here in the southern hemisphere, and this new set made by online team member Beth is the perfect inspo to sew your own! Beth used the Grasser 928 pattern and her self-drafting skills for this set, read on for details and photos.
Pattern Used — adapted Grasser 928 plus self drafted bikini top
If you've been dreaming of your own #memade swimsuit and love a style with decent coverage, we'd definitely recommend giving the Grasser pattern a go! Beth said she chose this pattern for it's fun raglan bodice inserts, allowing her to mix the colours, as well as the flattering cut of the bikini bottoms. She used the size 48 (height 176-182) pattern, with 1m of Double Jersey Swim Salvia, and 0.5m of Double Jersey Swim Carnation. Beth is an advanced sewist and this project took her a little longer than a woven fabric, as swim styles are rather slippery! She ended up splitting the Grasser pattern at the waist, for a top and bottom, and adding a matching self drafted triangle bikini top.
Sewing this type of fabric requires an overlocker for a lasting finish and Beth also added zigzag accent stitching for extra security. She made a few additional customisations to the pattern, such as lengthening the sleeves and adding swim elastic to the waistline of the bottoms. Beth said the fit is comfortably snug and she'll be pairing this set with her dive mask and fins, or a surfboard under one arm, to complete the look!
