This playful, eclectic Naked Lunch linen print arrived just in time for the Souther Hemisphere summer, and was quickly snapped up by Genevieve and Chloe from our HQ team. A deadstock pure linen, this beautifully woven lightweight fabric features a cheeky screenprint design made up of ladies enjoying a wine amongst the trees!

Genevieve says both the print & composition drew her to this fabric...but mostly the print! Linen is her go-to fabric for summer days and this print fits her aesthetic perfectly! Chloe loves cobalt blues and couldn't resist using this blue toned print for a Make by TFS Lucie Robe. She likes how the scale of the figures makes the print look like an abstract camouflage from afar too.

Genevieve's Lulee Skirt + Array Top — Project Notes

Genevieve wanted an easy to wear style that could be dressed up or down, and was tempted by the Lulee Dress at first but then opted for separates! She made the size 5 (she's usually a 12) and used 3.1m of our Naked Lunch Linen for both skirt & top main pieces, plus 1.8m of white cotton voile for the skirt lining. Supplies included an 18cm invisible zip, 20cm of interfacing, 1 x button, and 55cm of elastic.

These two patterns took Genevieve about 6 hours to make - including an hour or so for strategically placing the print for cutting out. Genevieve has sewn lots of Papercut patterns, and finds the instructions to be consistently clear with good visual references. She made a few adjustments to the process, including lining the skirt, adding 5cm onto the length of the sleeve, and adjusting the bias binding on the neckline for the finer fabric.

If you're keen to match this look, purchase these patterns from our Papercut range in stores and online here, or download them from the Papercut website.

Top Tip — Genevieve used a 'lightning bolt' stitch on the machine for the bias seams on the skirt. This allows the bias to have a little more movement and can stop waving in the seams. She also opted for pinking sheers on these seams rather than overlocking, to keep the seams as light and flexible as possible.

Genevieve says — "I love a twin set, it just feels very put together without even trying! I have a beach wedding coming up in Australia and thinking this would be perfect for the smart casual dress code they have set - little bit cheeky and absolutely divine!"

Chloe's Lucie Robe — Project Notes

Chloe has made our Make by TFS Lucie Robe pattern up before in a midweight linen and adores the silhouette - she decided to try a size B using this lighter linen print for summer, and it took 3.5m.
This is a beginner level project and it took Chloe about a full day altogether for completion.

She followed the sew along successfully, and recommends paying attention to the pre-pressing recommendations at the start, especially if using a lightweight linen fabric. Chloe is usually a size 12, and loves the extra wrapping room that the size B Lucie Robe gives her. She didn't make any changes to the pattern, but added a basting stitch around the collar, to help with lining it all up.

The Lucie Robe is our very first Make by TFS pattern and is a simple style, designed to lounge in at home, throw over swimwear at the beach, or pair with sandals in the summer as a wrap-style dress. If you'd like to try it out, download the PDF pattern here.

Chloe says — "I see myself wearing this around my house a lot! But wouldn't be against wearing it as a duster coat with a t-shirt and jeans to see peoples' reactions if they notice the print!"
