Tie Waist Blouse
11—October 2023
This week we review the Tie Waist Blouse from Puff and Pencil, featuring our playful new patchwork denim!
We're continuing spring pattern reviews this week, with this cute sleeveless pattern from Copenhagen based Puff and Pencil! With long ties to cinch the waist, side splits and a tie back neck, this beginner-friendly pattern suits loads of fabric types. Read on for our review, kindly modelled by Amy from our HQ team.
Puff and Pencil — Tie Waist Blouse
The Tie Waist Blouse from Puff and Pencil is a simple sleeveless blouse pattern, featuring encased ties at the waist and a pull over fit. This is a fairly simple sew, and uses very small fabric meterage - our size M for Amy took just 0.6m of 12oz Patchwork Denim – Indigo. The pattern itself doesn't state a difficulty level, but we would recommend this for a beginner with a little experience. We did feel the instruction manual would benefit from more illustrations to support each step of the instructions, as well as a layplan for the pattern pieces and interfacing instructions. That said, this was a straightforward project, and we love how it turned out in this patchwork denim!

New to stores this week is a deadstock pure cotton patchwork denim from Japan! This heavyweight fabric has been woven in a patchwork of a classic denim twill and canvas. The combination of a dark indigo blue warp thread and an ivory weft thread combine to create a two-toned patchwork check effect denim with a sturdy structure. We have two colourways available, the indigo and monochrome shown below. Completely opaque, this is a sturdy fabric with no stretch and a matt finish ideal for jeans, jackets, overalls and jumpsuits.
