Our Poppy Coat is a modern oversized coat pattern with an enveloping silhouette and exaggerated detailing, the perfect balance of practicality and cosy style. This pattern is fully lined with a single front button closure, playful curved collar and notch lapel, long sleeves and generous front welt pockets. Beth made the full length version and used 3.25m of this beautiful wool cashmere blend melton coating, plus 2.5m of our cute Liberty print cotton for lining and a recycled paper button to close. Her only adjustment to the Poppy pattern was to add 6cm to the sleeve length. Poppy is designed for advanced level sewists and we highly recommend making a toile before you cut out your final fabric.

The Poppy Coat is designed for medium-heavy weight woven fabrics such as wool and wool blends, in coating, melton or boucle styles. This pattern would also sew up beautifully in medium weight wovens like denim or gabardine. You'll also need a lining fabric for the coat interior, such as acetate, cupro, silk satin or twill, or rayon lining fabrics. Take care to ensure your lining option is not too lightweight as slippage may occur at the seams, and always pre-wash washable lining fabrics before you cut to avoid shrinkage. When choosing your fabrics, don’t forget to consider what you intend to pair your coat with and how you will clean it when required.
