Online Team member and customisation fan Becca picked the Merchant & Mills Mary White Dress for the blog this week. Made using a patchwork style combination of our Sheer Check Silks, this cute style required a few pattern hacks to make the most of the delicate fabric. Read on for photos and project details!

Project Details

Pattern — Merchant & Mills Mary White Dress

The Mary White pattern is a loose fitting dress or top, with front and back pleats, side in-seam pockets, a chest pocket and a cute little sailor collar. Becca chose the size 10 and used Ginger, Midnight, Old Gold and Rose colours of our Sheer Check Silk. This pattern isn't usually recommended for silk, so Becca made a series of customisations to accommodate for the lightweight and sheer qualities of this fabric. Adjustments include a centre front box pleat, self-covering the buttons, adding an organza neckline facing, splitting the collar at the centre back, gathering the waist and adding a waist tie and lengthening the entire pattern. Phew! We love the patchwork look, and Becca noted that the sheer silk is easier to work with than you might think.
