After sharing photos of Steph's Clara Dress with you all last year, we knew we had to try our own pattern from Swedish brand Silversaga! We've picked the romantic new release Ophelia Dress, a dream to sew in soft cotton voile. If you have been on the look out for a stellar pattern to kick start your 2024 sewing, this might be it! Read on for details and photos, very kindly modelled by Amy from our HQ team.

Pattern — Ophelia Dress by Silversaga

The Ophelia Dress features a fitted bodice, dropped shoulders, darting through the front and back, and a centre back zip closure. It has a gathered midi length skirt with hidden inseam pockets and is finished with a dramatic wide hem. The eye-catching sleeves have gathers and flounces, and are finished with bias binding. We picked a simple soft cotton voile in the colour Carmine for our Ophelia review, and chose the size 40 for Amy according to her measurements. This sized required 3.75m of the cotton, as we were able to fit the front skirt across the width, plus a 60cm invisible zip. Cotton voile is a fairly sheer fabric, but the fullness from this pattern's gathered skirt provided enough coverage that we didn't need to use a lining or put a slip underneath.

Ophelia is an advanced beginner pattern, offered in European sizes 34-50. Silversaga suggest that you should be able to sew bias binding for the neckline and the sleeves and insert a concealed zipper. There are also gathering lines on the sleeves and optional pockets. The instructions for this pattern were clear and well written, and we'd highly recommend trying it out!
